IVF is used not only for infertility but also for couples carrying a genetic disease and for people whose fertility is at risk because of cancer.
In the video, Prof. Dr. İkbal Kaygusuz briefly explains when IVF is used. Couples who do not achieve a pregnancy within a year despite regular intercourse see a doctor, and after the necessary investigations, IVF is one of the treatments that may be started.
However, IVF is not used only to treat infertility. If a couple already has a child with a genetic disease, the embryos obtained through IVF can be genetically tested and an embryo that does not carry the disease can be transferred to the uterus. In addition, for people with cancer whose fertility may be lost later in life, embryos can be created and frozen through IVF, giving the couple the option of using them for a pregnancy when they choose.
