The reason for treatment, the woman's age, the number of eggs obtained and embryo quality all affect IVF outcomes. The video explains these factors.
In the video, Prof. Dr. İkbal Kaygusuz explains the factors that affect the outcome of IVF treatment. The first is the reason for treatment: when IVF is done because the tubes are blocked, the chance of pregnancy is higher than when it is done because of reduced ovarian reserve.
The second factor is the woman's age. With age, eggs age, the fertilisation rate and the uterus's ability to hold an embryo decrease, and accompanying conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and polyps become more common. The third factor is the number of eggs obtained during treatment; when fewer than five eggs are obtained, the chance of pregnancy falls, particularly at an older age. For this reason, the video stresses that IVF treatment should not be postponed.
Another factor is embryo quality, where the male factor also plays a part: how the sperm was obtained and whether a surgical procedure such as TESA or TESE was needed both matter. If the man is over 50, the risk of sperm damage is higher and embryo quality can be affected.
The video also lists points to pay attention to during treatment: avoiding smoking and alcohol, cutting down on tea and coffee, eating regularly, getting regular sleep, avoiding stress and taking medicines regularly and correctly.
