Signs that need urgent assessment
- Vaginal bleeding: any bleeding beyond light spotting should be checked.
- Leaking fluid: a trickle or gush of fluid may mean your waters have broken early.
- Reduced baby movements: once you feel regular movements, seek help promptly if they clearly decrease or stop.
- Severe headache, visual disturbance, sudden swelling of the face and hands: possible signs of pre-eclampsia.
- Severe or persistent abdominal pain
- Regular contractions before 37 weeks: possible preterm labour.
- Fever above 38 °C, burning on urination and flank pain
- Persistent vomiting and inability to keep fluids down
What to do
Go to the emergency department of the hospital where you plan to give birth or call 112. The appointment form and WhatsApp are not suitable for emergencies.
